GOT7, a group affiliated with JYP Entertainment, is in the spotlight for the re-signing season.

GOT7 debuted on January 16, 2014, and its exclusive contract with its agency JYP Entertainment expires in January 2021. Each member reportedly had a careful discussion with the agency ahead of the end of the contract.

Ahead of the re-signing season, some members contacted outside agencies. It is heard that member Jinyoung recently had a contract-related meeting with BH Entertainment. Another member, Yugyeom, is also known to have recently contacted the hip-hop label AOMG regarding his exclusive contract.

Along with the issue of GOT7's re-signing, there is also a growing interest in the '7th year jinx'. Most idol groups' contracts are seven years, and the public's attention is often drawn when the time is approaching when the contract expires.

"Seven-year jinx" refers to an idol group's seven-year after debut when a member leaves or a team is disbanded. Some people tend not to regard membership withdrawal or replacement as a jinx.

There is a difficulty of "long run" due to the continuous influx of new groups as the years go by. Fandom as well as the public's attention is dispersed and the response to the group often falls. As such, most groups are not able to complete seven years and go through the process of dismantling.

Therefore, some say that they are a successful idol just by enduring seven years. In addition, fans often cheer for the members' new future at the end of the contract.

Factors such as individual activities limited to seven years of team activities, conflicts between agency or members, etc. are key to whether the contract will be renewed or not.

Meanwhile, there are quite a few idol groups that have safely passed seven years. Some groups have left due to unexpected or unsavory incidents, but most of the groups that have overcome the "seven-year jinx" have been continuing their team activities through re-sign.

BTS is a representative idol group. BTS debuted in June 2013. At that time, BigHit and BTS quickly re-signed with more than a year remaining.

In general, re-signing takes place just before the end of the contract, but early re-signing is an advanced method applied to top stars.

The group SHINee is a specimen of 'Long Run.' All the members were in their teens, 20s, and 30s together. SHINee, who debuted in 2008, spent more than 10 years together. On the other hand, SHINee also had a hard time. Jong-hyun's sudden death in December 2017 left the biggest pain.

In addition, they are continuing their team activities through re-signing beyond the "seven-year jinx" of the group CNBLUE, VIXX and BTOB.
