Regarding the special cases of military service by BTS, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Yang-woo announced that a prospective review is necessary.
Minister Park replied, “The issue of postponement of military service by popular culture artists who promoted the national prestige needs to be proactively reviewed” to a question about the postponement of military service by pop culture artists at the National Assembly's National Assembly Audit of Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee.
He added, "I hope that the related bill currently presented to the National Defense Commission will be dealt with as soon as possible after discussions with the administration and the National Assembly."
In response, Rep. Jeon urged the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to come up with an alternative plan, saying, "E-sports players are also promoting national prestige and are able to exercise their best abilities in their 20s."
Earlier, Jeon proposed a revision to the Military Service Act, which would allow artists of national prestige, such as BTS, to postpone military service after being recommended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
