BTS selected WSJ "2020 Innovator of the Year"

BTS was selected as the winner of the "2020 Innovator Awards" for music by the Wall Street Journal magazine, marking the cover of "The Innovators Issue."

 

The Wall Street Journal magazine announced winners of each category of "2020 Innovator of the Year" at 8 p.m. (local time) on its website streaming on the 11th (local time), including music winner BTS. The Wall Street Journal magazine has been selecting innovators in various areas related to culture, including music, TV, art, architecture, and literature, and this year marks its 10th anniversary.

 

The Wall Street Journal magazine commented on why it chose BTS as the winner of the "2020 Innovator of the Year" music category, often referred to as the 21st Century Beatles. Breaking the boy band's formula, leading the concept of fandom to new territory, and globalizing the genre of K-pop. Their influence goes beyond music. In June, BTS donated to a meaningful campaign, which fans joined to raise the same amount in a day. This is the innovation and leadership that the world needs today."

 

In his acceptance speech released in the video, RM said, "We are just ordinary children who love music and performance. I dream of giving people hope and love, positive energy and inspiration."

 

BTS also mentioned the message "Love yourself, Speak yourself"  that has been steadily spreading through music. "I couldn't love myself when I was a student either, but I was loved by so many people while I was doing this, and that's how I started to give love," Jin explained.

 

J-Hope also said, "The 'Love yourself, Speak yourself' message is very special to me," adding, "It's a message from a team called BTS, but it's an important material that has greatly affected us."

 

Also, Jimin said, "I think the members made it themselves. "The relationship with the members, with our fans," and V said, "I think the situation is going to be very difficult for everyone around the world, but I hope we can load the bullets of hope."

 

BTS also expressed its views on the meaning of 'innovation'. Suga said, "I think innovation is 'not stopping.' The most important thing is to keep changing without complacency," Jungkook said. "If I do something in the little things and feel in them, wouldn't it be an innovation?"
