Why did TWICE's song become the background music for the U.S. presidential election?

How did K-pop group TWICE's song "Feel Special" become the background music for the U.S. presidential election? The start was a "Congratulatory Video" produced by an American Internet user after Joe Biden won a thrilling come-from-behind victory in Georgia, one of the first-place U.S. presidential elections on the 6th. "feel special" is the background music of the video, which became a hot topic with 2.7 million views in three days on Twitter.

Since then, video clips of Biden's supporters singing "feel special" enthusiastically in the car and engaged in a fierce war of words with Trump supporters, and composite videos of pop singer Lady Gaga dancing to "feel special" have gained popularity one after another.

It is not an "accidental meeting" between the U.S. presidential election and Twice. Globally, K-pop has often been summoned in the name of "politics." The K-pop fandom in the U.S. has made headlines several times for its active participation in politics, such as fighting against far-right groups online and engaging in "no-show" acts on Trump's campaign trail.

It's not just about America. Last month's anti-government protests in Thailand echoed the "Into the New World" of the group Girls' Generation. The protesters, led by the 10-20 generation, shrugged off their shoulders by singing the medley of popular K-pop singers such as Twice and NCT127 as well as Girls' Generation. This is possible because many of the young protesters are K-pop fans.

Why is the world's K-pop fandom taking political action as if it had promised? There are various analyses. K-pop fans tend to be liberal, consist of various races, familiar with collective action, etc. All these analyses converge again into one question. What's K-pop's leads fans to political action?

In fact, K-pop has nothing to do with politics. Since its birth, K-pop has intentionally maintained a bleaching status of distancing itself from political issues. What made K-pop an icon of 'political action' is the process itself that has risen to mainstream from the periphery of the world's pop culture. K-pop has become an icon of non-mainstream, diversity and minorities who "awaken" the world's fandom regardless of the industry's intentions.
