Before Jackson's debut

Jackson's mother is a former gymnast, and his father is a fencing coach. Both parents were athletes from the national team and were selected for the Hong Kong national team by participating in the Hong Kong national team selection test under the influence of their mother when he was young. But he didn't grow tall so quit gymnastics and started fencing with his father since he was 10 years old.

Under his father's guidance, he was the youngest member of the national fencing team as he was selected as the representative of Hong Kong's fencing national team. If it wasn't for JYP's casting, he would have planned to compete in the London Olympics. In the 2016 Brazil Olympics, even medals were a goal. Type Jackson's name on the website of the International Fencing Association and you can see that he is still registered as a player.

 

Since the time when he was fencing, his relationship with Korea has been deep. His best friend at the age of 12 was Nicholas, a Korean-Hong Kong fencer, and He is very close to Korean fencers because of the exchange that followed international competitions. While attending the American International School of Hong Kong, he played with Korean friends and enjoyed the rap of dynamic duo and Dok2.

 

And around December 2010, he was cast by JYP Entertainment while playing basketball at school. He won first place at JYP International Audition with a competition rate of 2,000:1. At that time, Jackson's dream was to win an Olympic gold medal, but he also wanted to be a rapper, so he continued to keep on music. However, as He was preparing for the London Olympics, He naturally ran into my parents' opposition.

 

However, after persistent persuasion, he finally obtained permission under the condition that 'They would not let him go if he failed to become Asia's best'. He played for Hong Kong at the 2010 Youth Olympics and ranked 11th in the Cadet(17 years old or younger).

In 2011, he entered the Asian Cadet (under 17) & Junior (under 20) fencing competition and won two gold medals in the under-17 sabre team competition and the individual competition.

He also revealed that he received an offer from Hong Kong University and Stanford before coming to Korea.
