If you don't know BTS, where did you come from?

Bang Si-hyuk, chairman of Big Hit Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as Big Hit), was selected as the "Variety 500," a leader of the pop culture industry selected by the U.S. pop culture magazine Variety.

Variety released the list of "Variety 500" on its official website on the 23rd (local time), a list that Variety has selected and announced every year since 2017 500 influential business leaders leading the global media industry.

 

This year, along with Chairman Bang Si-hyuk, Amazon Chairman Jeff Bezos, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, and Apple CEO Tim Cook were named.

Variety introduced Bang's achievements that led to BTS's global success by asking, "If you don't know the Korean boy band BTS, where have you lived?"

Variety also noted that Chairman Bang is working not only on music production but also on diversifying his business. He mentioned the development of the technology-based global fan community platform Weverse and the acquisition of several labels, including game companies Superb, Source Music and Pledis Entertainment.

"40% of sales within the top 100 in Korea's album sales in the first half of this year were by Big Hit Label artists, and when the company was unveiled in October, it recorded 8 trillion won in corporate value," he stressed.

 

BTS's digital single "Dynamite" topped the Billboard ranking "Hot 100" three times in total, followed by BTS's album "BE" and title track "Life Goes On," which topped "Billboard 200" and "Hot 100," respectively, in the same week.

Earlier this year, Chairman Bang was selected as the "2020 Billboard Power List" and "2020 Billboard Indie Power Players" one after another, and won the "Ponyjung Innovation Award" in June.
