In the history of K-pop, boy bands have dominated the million-selling list in Korea. But now, BLACKPINK, IZ*ONE and TWICE have set new records for the first time in history.
BLACKPINK made a big splash with its studio album titled "The Album" this year. After breaking the sales record for the first week, BLACKPINK became the first Korean girl group in history to hit 1 million copies with just one album.
Before BLACKPINK's album sales fell, IZ*ONE became the record holder, topping the first week of sales with BLOOM*IZ in early 2020. They released two other albums last year.
Considering all three albums sold, IZ*ONE sold 1,545,000 copies in 2020.
And last but not least, TWICE had many records that dominated this year. Before The Album was released, they held the record for girl group sales with More & More. They are also the girl group that recorded the highest total album sales in history.
Last year, TWICE sold a total of 1.3 million albums between More & More and Eyes Wide Open.
This is the first time that the three girl groups have become million sellers in the same year, with all groups' sales exceeding 1 million in 2020. Thanks to the pioneering success of BLACKPINK, IZ*ONE and TWICE, K-pop girl groups are sure to set even more impressive records in 2021.
