Thai K-pop fans raise 100 million won to support anti-government protests

Thai K-pop fans support the citizens who have continued anti-government protests for three months, arguing for Prime Minister Prayut Chanocha's resignation and monarchy reform from this summer, collecting donations in the name of each group and attracting attention. Fans of representative K-pop groups such as Girl's Generation, Super Junior, EXO, BTS, GOT7,Wanna One, NCT, NU'EST, Red Velvet, and Monsta X. As of the 21st, they are showing off the power of the fandom, exceeding 100 million won (2,758,000 baht).

According to Lee Yoo-hyun, CEO of the Thai-Korean-Thai Exchange Center, on this day, Super Junior fans even raised 28 million won in a single day. In addition, BTS fans started boycotting related advertisements when the authorities closed subway stations due to anti-government protests. Local fans are spending money on buying helmets and umbrellas for protesters against police crackdowns.

Recently, high school students and college students are participating in the protests. Most of them like K-pop and communicate related information through SNS. They have been engaged in various activities such as donation, blood donation, and environmental campaigns. Raising donations to support this anti-government protest is also an extension of that, Lee said.
