At the "American Music Awards" (AMAs), one of the top three music awards ceremonies in the U.S., BTS won two gold medals, including the pop and rock genre "Favorite Duo/Group."
BTS was selected as the winner of the Pop/Rock Genre Favorite Duo/Group and Favorite Social Artist at the "2020 American Music Awards" held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on the 22nd (local time). The awards ceremony is based on fan votes to confirm the popularity of the award-winning singer.
"I'm sorry that I can't attend the event with my own award," they said in a video message sent from Seoul. "I want to remain as a group that can deliver my condolences to the world through music even at this time."
"Pop/Rock Genre Favorite Duo/Group" is one of the major sectors where prominent groups such as Jonas Brothers and Maroon Five compete. Last year, BTS won the award for the first time as a non-English-speaking artist in the category and was honored for two consecutive years.
In the "Favorite Social Artist" category, which is based on the influence and popularity of social media, it has been selected as the winner for three consecutive years since 2018.
At the awards ceremony last year, BTS won a total of three gold medals, including "Tour of the Year," in addition to "Pop/Rock Genre Favorite Duo/Group" and "Favorite Social Artist."
At the awards ceremony, BTS unveiled its new song "Life Goes On" for the first time and also performed its hit song "Dynamite."
Meanwhile, the top honor of the year, "Artist of the Year," went to American pop star Taylor Swift for the third straight year.
